State of Arkansas adds 528 full time employees in FY 2012

Arkansas state employees are invaluable assets to the state employed who are by more than 150 agencies committed to healing, educating and assisting the citizens of Arkansas. According to Arkansas Business Publishing Group’s 2012 Book of Lists, the State of Arkansas is the largest employer followed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (47,796); Tyson Foods (24,000); and Federal Government agencies (20,900).

In a report compiled by Brandon Sharp, Budget Administrator within the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), the State of Arkansas ended the 2012 fiscal year with 56,879 full time workers. The largest increase was seen from the higher education institutions reporting 434 full time employees. In terms of individual agencies the largest increase was within the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences that gained 198 full-time employees bringing the total to 8,333 statewide.

According to Sharp’s report, next in line are the Department of Human Services, University of Central Arkansas, and the Department of Correction with 236, 147 and 130 respectively.
