Mileage reimbursement bill gains legislative support

Representative Nate Bell (R-Mena) filed House Bill 1044 that would require ALL state employees are reimbursed for travel in personal vehicles for official business at a rate of 0.42 per mile. As of now, constitutional officers and their employees and state elected officials and their employees are reimbursed at a rate of 0.52 per mile. As reported by Michael Cook of Talk Business, Bell is receiving support from other legislators. Representative James Mc Clean (D-Batesville) who had been a critic of Bell’s stated that he “applauded Bell for working to bring a little more fairness to state government,” as quoted in Talk Business. ASEA is encouraging state employees to call his or her legislator and ask for support of this bill.
