Gubernatorial candidates to address state employees at annual convention

ASEA 46th Convention LogoThe Arkansas State Employees Association (ASEA) celebrates its 46th year of serving the state employees of Arkansas at Embassy Suites in Little Rock, Friday, August 15th and Saturday, August 16th.

The convention theme is “Building a Bridge to Success.” Presented by Liberty Mutual, the convention will focus on teamwork, organization and legislative priorities for the 2015 Legislative Session.

“In light of rising health benefit costs and the lack of a cost-of-living adjustment this year, now more than ever, state employees must be equipped with the necessary tools to communicate their needs to legislators and the new governor,” said Danny James, ASEA Executive Director.

Friday morning attendees will hear from Fmr. State Representative, Johnnie Roebuck who will present a workshop on best practices for communicating with legislators. ASEA will also host a banquet Friday night to highlight outstanding employees. ASEA will announce the 2014 Outstanding State Employee who will receive a $1000 cash prize.

This year gubernatorial candidates Mike Ross (D) and Asa Hutchinson (R) have been invited to address state employees during the Saturday, August 16th session. ASEA will also honor outstanding chapters and recruiters.

“This event is an opportunity to put Arkansas state employees in the spotlight. They are the people who teach, treat and assist the citizens of Arkansas,” James said. “It is truly an honor to work on their behalf.”

Registration is now open. The cost is $40 for the full convention package. Visit for more information or to register. All are invited to attend. Convention sponsors are Liberty Mutual, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Qual Choice, Arkansas Employees Federal Credit Union, Hagan-Newkirk, VSP and Purchasing Power.
